Flavor Profile
Opens with an explosion of tropical passion fruit — tangy, exotic, unmistakable. Vanilla rounds the edges into something smooth and indulgent. The prosecco sidecar provides contrast and bubbles, cutting through the sweetness with a dry sparkling punctuation.
Ingredients
Classic Porn Star Martini (1 serving)
| Ingredient | Amount | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Vanilla vodka | 45 ml / 1.5 oz | Absolut Vanilla is traditional; infuse plain vodka with vanilla if unavailable |
| Passion fruit liqueur | 30 ml / 1 oz | Passoa is the original; Chinola for a more intense version |
| Vanilla syrup | 10 ml / 0.33 oz | Or 0.5 tsp vanilla extract + 10 ml simple syrup |
| Fresh passion fruit | 1 fruit | Scoop out half for the garnish; use the other half's juice in the shaker |
| Fresh lime juice | 15 ml / 0.5 oz | Adds brightness |
For the Sidecar
| Ingredient | Amount |
|---|---|
| Chilled prosecco | 45 ml / 1.5 oz |
Instructions
- Cut the passion fruit in half. Reserve one half for garnish; scoop the pulp from the other half into the shaker.
- Add vanilla vodka, passion fruit liqueur, vanilla syrup, and lime juice to the shaker.
- Muddle the passion fruit pulp briefly.
- Add ice and shake vigorously for 15 seconds.
- Double strain into a chilled martini glass.
- Float the reserved passion fruit half face-up on top of the drink (it should float on the foam).
- Pour chilled prosecco into a small shot glass or mini flute and serve alongside.
- Present together — the visual pairing is essential to the experience.
The prosecco ritual: There is no wrong way to drink the sidecar. Some bartenders suggest a sip of martini, then a sip of prosecco to reset the palate. Others dip the passion fruit half into the prosecco between sips. The "right way" is whatever makes you happiest.
Glassware & Presentation

The Story
Created by Douglas Ankrah at The Townhouse in London's Knightsbridge in 2002, the Porn Star Martini was designed to be "the sexiest, most outrageous cocktail imaginable." Ankrah wanted a drink that would generate conversation before the first sip — and the name certainly did that.
The drink's real genius is the prosecco sidecar: a small shot of chilled prosecco served alongside the martini. The traditional way to drink it — alternating between the passion fruit martini and the prosecco shot — gives the experience a pacing and ritual that no other cocktail offers. Some dip the prosecco; some sip alternately; some pour it in. Either way, it extends the experience.
By 2015 it was the #1 most ordered cocktail in UK bars — a position it hasn't surrendered since. In 2025 it claimed the title of the most Google-searched cocktail globally, a testament to both its visual appeal and the conversation it consistently generates.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
The Prosecco shot alongside is a theatrical British invention — it wasn't in Dick Bradsell's original recipe. The idea is to sip the cocktail, then take the Prosecco as a palate cleanser, alternating between the two. In practice, most people just pour it in. Both approaches are fine.
-
Chinola Passion Fruit Liqueur (Dominican Republic) is a premium alternative with cleaner, more authentic passion fruit flavour. Monin Passion Fruit Syrup works for a non-alcoholic base. Funkin Passion Fruit Martini Mix is a convenient pre-made option. Avoid generic passion fruit cordials — they lack the depth.
-
Yes — combine everything except the Prosecco in advance and refrigerate. The foam forms from shaking, so each serving still needs to be shaken individually. Serve the Prosecco in small separate shot glasses alongside. The pre-mixed base keeps refrigerated for up to 24 hours.
